Justice has opened an investigation into the remuneration conditions of Tony Estanguet, as president of the organizing committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop), franceinfo learned this Tuesday from a source close to the matter, confirming information from the AFP.

Tony Estanguet received annual remuneration of 270,000 euros gross until 2020, according to figures communicated by Cojop in 2018. This remuneration was then likely to change within a limit of 20%, depending on certain performance criteria, Cojop indicated at the time. But this committee being a 1901 law type association, the remuneration of its directors is capped by law at significantly lower levels.

Contacted by the Radio France Sports department, Cojop for its part indicates in a press release that the committee “discovered this information with astonishment“.”As a reminder, the framework for the remuneration of the President of the Organizing Committee is very strictly regulated.“, further specifies Cojop. “As we have always done with all control bodies, Paris 2024 is ready to answer questions relating to its management“, specifies Cojop to the Radio France Sports department.
