Tony Estanguet assures that “everything is ready”, five days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games

“France has been preparing for ten years. We can’t wait to offer this moment of celebration and gathering!” Tony Estanguet, the director of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games organizing committee, was reassuring on Sunday, July 21, on the set of France 2’s “20 Heures”. Three days before the first competitions and five days before the opening ceremony, he said that “everything is ready”even if “We will remain very focused, very vigilant”at least “until August 11”the last day of the Olympic fortnight.

He explains that “4,500 athletes have already arrived”while 1,800 are expected on Monday. In total, there will be 15,000 competing in “878 competitions and 54 sports”. If “everything is looking pretty good”Tony Estanguet nevertheless recalls that he “there may be risks everywhere” weighing on the security of the Games.

On the other hand, it is impossible to know more about the opening ceremony, which is to take place on Friday on the Seine. The Paris 2024 boss remained very discreet in the face of Thomas Sotto’s questions, using jokers to not give any details about the show, nor about the highly anticipated identity of the last bearer of the Olympic flame.
