Barely released, former construction contractor Tony Accurso returned to detention.
The 72-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening at his home by agents of the Lac des Deux-Montagnes Police Department, the police force confirms. He was taken to the Saint-Jérôme detention center.
The police arrested him at the request of Canadian Correctional Services, which suspended the parole he was benefiting from, said Inspector Jean-Philippe Labbé of the Deux-Montagnes police, a municipality located in the Laurentians.
However, the correctional services did not indicate the reason for this suspension of freedom granted to Mr. Accurso, who became known to the public during his participation in the Charbonneau commission.
The businessman, who was at the head of the companies Simard-Beaudry Construction and Constructions Louisbourg, began his incarceration sentence in the penitentiary last July, when the Supreme Court of Canada refused to hear the appeal of his conviction.
He was convicted in 2018 of five counts for his collaboration in a system of corruption and collusion in Laval from 1996 to 2010. The scheme involved the payment, by his construction companies, of a 2% kickback. of the price of contracts awarded by the City to the mayor, Gilles Vaillancourt, or to his associates.
He was sentenced to four years in prison. He then challenged his verdict and sentence on appeal, without success.
But after eight months behind bars, the man was released on parole a few weeks ago, serving only a fraction of his sentence.
