(Paris) After The Last of Us Or falloutplace to tomb Raider : Amazon announced Tuesday that it had ordered a series based on the video game franchise which follows the adventures of adventurer Lara Croft.
Amazon, which produces the series alongside Crystal Dynamics, the developer of tomb Raider, specified that the series will be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries. No broadcast date has been announced, nor the name of the actress who will play Lara Croft.
The British Phoebe Waller-Bridge, revealed by her successful series Fleabag and costar of the last Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones and the Clock of Destiny2023) will be the screenwriter and executive producer.
“If I could have told my teenage self that this was happening, I think she would have exploded,” said the 38-year-old actress and screenwriter, quoted in a press release on the website of tomb Raider.
“ tomb Raider has played an important role in my life and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many others, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats and all that included,” she continued.
The 7the art has repeatedly taken up the figure of Lara Croft. First in 2001 with the American star Angelina Jolie, then, in 2018, with the film tomb Raider worn by the Swede Alicia Vikander.
Adaptations of games into films and series are not new, but their quality has until now often left something to be desired, from the film Super Mario Bros. from 1993 to the series resident Evil released on Netflix in 2022.
Latest, the series falloutadaptation of a well-known saga of gamers, was released at the beginning of April on Amazon. It is signed Jonathan Nolan, brother of the filmmaker Christopher.
