Tom Renney steps down as Hockey Canada executive

(Calgary) Tom Renney is stepping down as CEO of Hockey Canada after an eight-year reign and will be replaced by Scott Smith.

Renney was named chairman and chief executive in 2014, taking over from Bob Nicholson, who had served in the role for 16 years.

Renney stepped down as president in 2017 when Hockey Canada chief operating officer Smith replaced him. Renney remained active as CEO.

Smith has held various positions with Hockey Canada since 1995. The 55-year-old from Bathurst, N.B., was named chief operating officer in 2007.
