Who said that a cyclo-cross specialist was confined to the role of facilitator in the breakaways? Tom Pidcock (Ineos-Grenadiers), yet not a born climber, delivered a solo number to triumph at the top of Alpe d’Huez, Thursday July 14 during the 12th stage of the Tour. The Briton could not have dreamed of better for his very first World Tour victory. At the end of a stage at a flat pace, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) remains in yellow ahead of Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), the new runner-up. Romain Bardet (Team DSM) and David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) lost precious seconds on the final climb.
