“I’ve done tons of movies – and four of them are pretty good,” he says. The quote is taken a bit out of context. Above all, the two-time Oscar-winning actor said how amazed he was, even after all this time, by the “miracle” of cinema, the process by which the spark of an idea becomes a film.

Tom Hanks has starred in 94 movies, according to the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB.com). If the actor believes that there are only four “quite good” (pretty good) films in this imposing list, it is because he gives a score of 4.3% to his filmography. It doesn’t seem like much for an actor who has his star on the Walk Of Fame.

Which of these 94 films, three of which have not yet been released, find favor in his eyes? He doesn’t say a word. You have to make up your own mind.

We suspect that he would not put the trilogy Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Infernos at the top of his list. Neither the franchise Toy Storyto which he lends only his voice.

Would he dare deny Forrest Gumphowever ? Big ? Cast Away ? philadelphia ? Apollo 13 ? Saving Private Ryan ? Mystery. Two of these films are clearly not up to par, in his eyes.

Tom Hanks made this comment in an interview mainly devoted to his first novel, The Making Of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpieceto be published in May 2023. His story, which seems to unfold over several periods, revolves among other things around a director who decides to adapt a comic book into a blockbuster film.
