Fervent fans of Tom Brady, it’s time to light your lanterns again! The legendary quarterback mentioned in a podcast that he is not closing the door on a return to play if a good situation presents itself to him during the season.
The man who won the Super Bowl title seven times during his illustrious 23-year career in the NFL hung up his shoulder pads at the end of the 2022 season, his third with the Buccaneers.
He had spent the previous 20 years with the Patriots, with whom he built his legend by winning six championships.
On to the podcast DeepCut with VicBlendsBrady was asked if he might be tempted by a return to the game like Joe Flacco, who joined the Browns last November when a massacre struck their group of quarterbacks.
“I’m not against it,” Brady said first.
“I don’t know if they would let me do it if I owned an NFL team. I will always be in good physical condition and able to throw the ball. Return to the game for a short while, like MJ [Michael Jordan, dans la NBA] did it, I don’t know if they would let me go, but I wouldn’t be opposed,” he said, citing the Raiders and the Patriots as interesting destinations.
Owner of the Raiders?
This is a statement that risks getting people talking. After all, the quarterback will turn 47 in August.
If Brady is talking about a sort of permission from the NFL, it is because he has been trying for a year to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. This would be a big first in the league and if the trade ends up going through, there is no guarantee that he would have the green light to jump on the field.
Michael Jordan owned shares in the Washington Wizards after his brilliant career with the Chicago Bulls, when he decided to return to the game in 2001, after three years off.
Before last season, in complete secrecy, the 49ers offered Brady a return to the game, due to uncertainty regarding the injury of their young starter Brock Purdy. Brady declined the offer.
In June, he mentioned that he was “100% sure” of being retired. This percentage may not have dropped much and perhaps he is just having fun, but the door is still not closed.
