Will toll prices increase again next year? The Constitutional Council has just validated a new tax that aims to finance ecological measures. Managers are threatening to pass this tax on to motorists.

The State is attacking the profits of large motorway companies with a new tax to finance the ecological transition. Some motorists are in favour of it. But motorway concessions have warned: this tax will have to be offset by increasing toll prices, as some users fear.

The toll prices should not increase immediately, because only the state sets the rates. In the long term, this financial loss should be passed on. “In future contracts signed in the coming years and in the coming decades, candidate concessionaires will demand that the toll price be higher or will give less money to the State to be able to operate these concessions.”says Arnaud Aymé, transport specialist at SIA Partners. The measure should bring in 450 million euros per year to the State. Some airports should also be taxed.
