Toddler died in a family daycare service in Assomption: the child had serious injuries when emergency services arrived

The one-year-old toddler found seriously injured in a daycare in L’Assomption on Tuesday, and who subsequently succumbed to his injuries could have been the victim of a criminal act, we learned The newspaper.

At least that’s the direction the investigation seems to be taking at the moment. This is carried out by the crimes against the person division of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

A 911 call was made yesterday regarding a boy in poor condition in a family daycare on rue Labonté. When emergency services arrived, he suffered significant injuries and was rushed to hospital. He died a few hours later, police confirm. His small body showed obvious traces of violence, particularly on the head, our sources indicate.

When the QMI Agency passed by, a small cart was visible in front of the residence.

The people who operate the daycare and the parents of the little victim were met by investigators, but no arrests have been made at this stage. At this time, it has not been possible to determine where the injuries may have been inflicted.

The daycare is operated by a young man from Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes and is located in the basement of a small family’s residence. As the owner of the residence, who also sometimes acts as an educator, already has two children, the environment could accommodate a maximum of four other little ones.

“I prefer to refrain from commenting for the moment. Out of respect and not to harm anyone’s reputation in this. It’s very hard,” said Tomy Carranza Ladry, the educator.

Since the spring, the service has been recognized by the Ministry of Families and under the responsibility of a coordinating office. However, it was closed yesterday due to the ongoing investigation, confirms Wendy Whittom, spokesperson for the ministry. The Baliballon Early Childhood Center, which coordinates the family environment in question, did not respond to our interview request.

No other children were injured, specifies the SQ.

An autopsy and a coroner’s inquest will be carried out to shed light on this tragedy.
