Officer Erika Landry of the Laval Police Department confirmed the death of the 40-year-old woman, which occurred Friday morning.

The woman was driving with her one-month-old baby and four-year-old daughter when their car plunged into the shallow waters of the Mille Îles River around 5 p.m. on October 28.

The girl survived and was released the same evening from the hospital, while the body of the one-month-old toddler was fished out on Monday by Sûreté du Québec divers, during a third day of research.

Earlier this week, police said they had reason to believe the plunge into the river was deliberate.

The mother had been in critical condition since last week and investigators were never able to speak to her.
