The rocky object would have crossed the sky around 10:15 p.m. on Friday.

On social media, hundreds of people from across the province claimed to have seen what looked like a meteor.

Several of them claim to have seen a mass pass at full speed. It was followed by a streak of dazzling light, the color of which varied between blue and orange, depending on where it was seen.

The phenomenon would also have been visible in Ontario and the United States.

Witnesses to the event are invited to report it here.

Coincidence

The celestial body observed in North America entered Earth’s atmosphere just in time for International Asteroid Day.

The objective of this day approved by the United Nations is to sensitize the terrestrial population to the risks related to asteroids.

This global event was created to commemorate the biggest meteorite disaster observed by man. On June 30, 1908, a rock mass caused a huge explosion, since known as the Tunguska explosion.

The phenomenon, which occurred in Siberia, deployed an energy 1000 times greater than that of the nuclear bomb which fell on Hiroshima, some 37 years later. Several tens of kilometers of surrounding forest were burned for weeks due to the explosion. The sound of the impact was heard over 1,500 km away.
