For Donald Trump, any means is good to make money. The sale of Bibles brought in $300,000, or about 272,000 euros, to the former American president in a few months, according to a financial document that the BBC was able to consult. Last March, the Republican candidate announced that he was launching into this new business in order to meet his exorbitant financial costs, particularly those related to his legal affairs.
On March 26, the candidate for re-election promoted his “favorite book” in a short video published on his social network Truth. “Every American should have a Bible in their home. I have several and I think you should all get a copy of the Bible right now.”he said.
Baptized God Bless the USA Bible and featuring a sober brown cover, the holy book is sold on Lee Greenwood’s website and on a dedicated website, for $59.99. This country singer is known for his song God Bless The USAwhich became Donald Trump’s campaign anthem.
The book also includes the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States, and the lyrics to Lee Greenwood’s hit song. A copy of the God Bless the USA Bible, signed by Donald Trump, is also on sale for $1,000 (a little over 900 euros).
The sale of these “Trump-Greenwood” version Bibles generates royalties, thanks to which the candidate remunerates himself. According to the financial document revealed by the BBCDonald Trump also received $5 million in royalties from books he himself wrote, and holds $1 million to $5 million in cryptocurrencies. Enough to help him finance his significant legal expenses, including his lawyers’ fees, which amount to $50 million. Not to mention the approximately $100 million he owes in the lawsuits he lost.
