to overcome the restrictions, the city of Châteauroux collects rainwater

Several departments remain on drought alert. Some streams are even partially dry. Some regions still fear water shortages, such as Châteauroux.

In Châteauroux, we had never seen the Indre river like this. It is now almost dry. However, here, the drought, we have known what it is for several years – but never to this extent. The town hall has therefore anticipated, in order to save water. In his garden, Renaud Emeret was provided by the municipality with a rainwater collector for only 20 euros. “I set up a gutter, with a downspout, and it goes straight into the water catcher“, he testifies. Enough to store 3,000 liters of water to water his garden all year round.

The city’s technical services use the same strategy, and can recover up to 200,000 litres. They could thus water without running water for at least six weeks. However, given the very low winter rains, the city had to sacrifice almost half of its massifs.
