In the Strasbourg region, in the Bas-Rhin, some craftsmen have chosen to swap their vehicle for a cargo bike. A cheaper, less polluting and faster alternative to getting around.
Hairdresser at home, Christophe Metzler begins his working day by loading his cargo bike before going to his first appointment, a few kilometers from his home, in Ostwald (Bas-Rhin). For two and a half years, he has already clocked more than 12,000 kilometers on his new means of transport. “It actually allows me to park quite freely and it’s a big time saver for me”, he confides. no essencethis, no parking meter, no delay, it seems obvious to many.
A beneficial commercial identity
The cargo bike also makes it possible to build a real commercial identity that appeals to customers. “They call me the bicycle hairdresser. It brought me a lot of visibility because people have time to see me and it also serves as a showcase for me”underline Christopher Metzler. A carpenter by training, Valentin Schoch-Danjou also chose to take the plunge and do without his van. “In terms of time, I think that if I had come in a van I would have lost a little bit and in terms of investment, there is no comparison”, he testifies. And for good reason, an electrified second-hand bike costs 3,000 euros, eight times less than a van.
