The tribute to Hubert Germain began on Wednesday 10 November. The last Companion of the Liberation, who died on October 12, will be buried at Mont Valérien, in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine), the 11th of November. A thousand resistance fighters, communist, foreign or Jewish hostages were shot there for their ideas by the Germans. At the time, the fortress was a clandestine place, without witnesses or almost. Photos taken by a Wehrmacht soldier on February 21, 1944 remain today. We see the condemned, often with their hands tied behind their backs, tied to the posts, facing the firing squad. Their last right: choose to be blindfolded or not. When the memorial was created in 1958, General de Gaulle wanted to reserve a place for the last Companion of the Liberation. It is therefore at Mont Valérien that Hubert Germain will rest, surrounded by 16 other dead for France.
