This Monday, April 18, 2022 in the middle of the afternoon, dozens of undocumented people and their supporters decided to take over unoccupied premises, located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. A banner was deployed, reports AFP, on which one can read “No to racism!” or “Migrants’ life matter”.
At the origin of this occupation, the collective La Chappelle Debout which demands rights for all, in particular access to housing and which wishes to transform the place into an “embassy for immigrants”. The same collective had organized in July 2019 the occupation of the Pantheon by several hundred undocumented migrants to demand their regularization.
This Monday’s action received the support of some twenty Extinction Rebellion activists. The environmental movement has occupied, not far from there, a part Grands Boulevards throughout the weekend.
