In Florida (United States), the beaches are swallowed by erosion. So, in order to overcome this phenomenon, the municipality has undertaken major work.

Miami Beach, Florida (USA), is a delight for retirees and vacationers, but few of them imagine the complex operation that hides behind their tan. Indeed, this legendary beach is being swallowed up by erosion, a victim of global warming and its procession of hurricanes. So, a few meters from the beaches, US Army engineering teams are hard at work. Hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of sand to regenerate the beach: here is the project of the town hall.

A cost of 40 million dollars

The cost of the work is fully borne by the local authorities. Lindsey Precht, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, explains: “Before the work, the beach was only a quarter of what you see now. This project is costing the city $40 million, but we’ll see a payback in just four years.” Scientists and environmental conservation agencies are not opposed to these projects, for lack of anything better.
