On the set of 13 Heures, Friday February 2, doctor and journalist Damien Mascret discusses the issue of insomnia. According to various studies, stress is one of the main factors. “As soon as there is stress, the brain is awake and prevents us from sleeping well”, he explains. However, insomnia is not inevitable. Among the remedies: avoid coffee in the six hours before sleep. “It takes six hours to eliminate half the coffee you drank”warns the doctor.

Alcohol likely to disturb rest

Sleeping pills disrupt sleep architecture and should only be used occasionally. Alcohol is also likely to disrupt rest. Screens are not recommended either, particularly because of the light they emit. “In the evening, the brain begins to secrete melatonin. (…) It is used to help us fall asleep”, and the screens prevent her from being active, specifies Damien Mascret. To sleep better, lowering body temperature, for example by taking a hot shower, is effective. Darkness in the bedroom is also recommended.
