In Echirolles, a southern suburb of Grenoble, the town hall issued two orders on Tuesday, September 24, to evacuate the residence “The Carrara” to combat drug trafficking, reports France Bleu Isère. The residents of this building have three days to pack their bags. Since 2021, the place, which has 80 homes, has been a well-established drug dealing point, and traffickers do not hesitate to squat in the vacant apartments. People were shot and injured in this building this summer and arrests were even made not far away in the neighborhood, specifies France Bleu Isère.

The mayor of the Isère commune, Amandine Demore, has decided to evacuate the entire Carrare building. In a press release, she explains that the residents must leave “for their own safety”The mayor points out the numerous malfunctions, the fire and electrical risks. According to the town hall, residents are exposed to a “permanent danger of death”, due to recurring damage linked to drug trafficking.

Several shootings have taken place since the beginning of the summer in the area of this residence. “This situation is the result of the numerous acts of degradation caused by malicious acts linked to drug trafficking which have been ruining the lives of residents and neighbours of this city centre building for several years, not to mention the recent development of the insecurity climate linked to the shootings linked to the gang war affecting the territory in recent weeks.”writes the mayor in her press release.

In detail, these two orders taken this Tuesday morning make the building uninhabitable. The objective is to force the co-ownership to carry out emergency security work. In the meantime, the town hall assures that it will provide, with the State, rehousing solutions for the inhabitants of Carrare.
