Vald’Yerre, in Eure-et-Loir, has decided to exempt its future residents from property tax from June 1, 2024. The measure will apply the first year following the purchase of the house.
Away from large cities and main roads, Vald’Yerre (Eure-et-Loire) has lost 200 inhabitants in five years. To attract new ones, the mayor lowered the price of building land from 42 to 20 euros per m². It recently decided to exempt from property tax those who choose to settle in a municipality. “The annual cost is estimated at 20,000 euros”he declares.
This lack should not weigh too much. But for those who would like to buy a property, the initiative can make the difference. Example with a house costing 87,000 euros which needs work. “We are on a house to renovate, so the property tax exemption will allow us to do additional work on this house. If it can help pay part of the energy bill the first year, it is a big plus”, explains Stanislas Deniau, Anou real estate agent. Local residents welcome the arrival of new residents. One way to maintain public services in this municipality, while a class closure took place in 2023 and another is planned, due to lack of students.
