Tuesday April 9, the Paris police headquarters published a surprising appeal to say the least on its X account. Owners of accommodation in Île-de-France who wish to rent their property to police officers are invited to come forward . If the call comes a few weeks before the start of the Olympic Games, the prefecture ensures that “this campaign has no connection with major events.”

The police headquarters has in fact, for several years, had a “housing office” which lists the offers of rental properties in Île-de-France for agents of the prefecture and the Ministry of the Interior. This register thus makes it possible to help the 43,000 agents – including 27,000 police officers – and in particular those newly assigned, to find accommodation in the Paris region. This contributes, specifies the prefecture, to “attract and stabilize the police in the urban area.”

“An effort on the amount of rent”

Regularly, information campaigns are carried out in order to complete the offer which mainly includes social housing. Thus, for several years, to respond to housing difficulties in the Paris region, the housing office has called on private owners. The offers concern apartments “with classic residential leases and not for a few months”specifies the prefecture.

Indeed, on the registration form that franceinfo consulted, it is indicated that the leases are “for a period of one year – for furnished accommodation – or three years – for empty accommodation – in accordance with theoi of July 6, 1989.” On its website, the prefecture specifies that renting to an agent of the police headquarters “allows you to benefit from advantages.” The owner benefits, for example, from the guarantee of rent payment since the prefecture acts as guarantor. Furthermore, no application fees are required. In return, the prefecture recognizes “only an effort on the amount of the rent” is requested.
