The titmouse would be the ultimate weapon against processionary caterpillars. It can eat up to 400 caterpillars per day. In the Semboules park in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), with an area of 20 hectares, there are no caterpillars in the pines. The danger is however well known by dog owners, but especially by parents who have them in the garden. Pheromone traps, removal of cocoons: different methods have been used to get rid of processionary caterpillars.
Other factors may explain their disappearance
