Famous for its role at the end of the 1997 film – and for the controversy over whether Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) could have survived if Rose (Kate Winslet) had allowed him to share it – this door, which is other than a balsa plate, found a buyer after a bidding war for $718,750!

Spread over five days, the sale of memorabilia from the Planet Hollywood restaurant franchise brought in more than $15 million.

“There were countless bidding wars during the Planet Hollywood Treasures sale, so many that we lost count,” said Joe Maddalena, executive vice president at Heritage Auctions.

“The extraordinary success of this sale proves what I knew all along: the interest and appetite for modern film props and costumes, all of which were once exhibited in Planet Hollywoods around the world or were part of their legendary archives, are deep, profound and insatiable,” he added.

Other highly coveted items at the auction included the iconic whip carried by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doompurchased for $525,000, along with Bill Murray’s red rose bowling ball from the film Kingpin, which found a buyer for $350,000. The ax Jack Nicholson used to smash down a door in the horror classic The Shining sold for $125,000 to the applause of the audience after fierce bidding for the iconic item.
