Invited to discuss this new edition of the Venice Film Festival, event director Alberto Barbera said: “The program is more varied than usual, since it associates established filmmakers with directors in search of confirmation and, above all, with new talents aspiring to international recognition.“
Indeed this year the Venice Film Festival, which takes place until September 10, has 23 films in the running, including 3 French: Athena by Romain Gavras Mine by Roschdy Zem and Saint-Omer by Alice Diop.
According to the director of the event, what always predominates at the Venice Film Festival (founded in 1932) is the feeling that “cinema still wants to try to explore ways of thinking, big themes and big questions, the deep relationships that bind people to each other, the power of feelings and memory and the ability to look beyond beyond the horizon of the present”.
