Time to take stock | The duty

The political and environmental fiasco of the Northvolt issue should alert us to the toxic nature of economic and financial interests that claim to ensure a transition to a better and, above all, greener world. Like all large companies, the battery manufacturer seems to have a great aversion to any form of regulation. Thus the economics of the ecological transition must always correspond to the interests, ambitions and prerogatives of the economic and financial elites. The solution envisaged to face the challenges inherent to climate change faithfully incorporates the main principles of the economic model which is responsible for the predicted catastrophe. With our eyes fixed on economic growth and the unlimited exploitation of resources, we lose sight of the vital issues that must guide all of our decisions and the real nature of our new economic models.

The urgency to act, which is constantly cited to justify privileges and departures from precautionary principles, just like the desire to voluntarily ignore the essential contribution of science should not make us forget the procrastination which characterizes all of these irresponsible elites. These sad sires who earn indecent remuneration proportional to their supposed skills cannot be trusted to guide humanity towards a better world. They have, by maintaining the status quo and the yoke of our dependencies, contributed directly to the irreversible upheavals which cause damage and victims on a daily basis.

A tool like the BAPE is a visionary entity in the current context, because it makes it possible to evaluate all the disadvantages and benefits (environmental, social and economic) of projects which determine our future as a living species within our ecosystems. To avoid the errors of the past and the disastrous results of our sacrosanct, deadly economic model, it is imperative to subject all projects and technological innovations to these rigorous and exhaustive reviews. It is entirely possible to adapt to such practices, it is enough to do planning and analysis upstream to comply with the requirements of this new economy which results from the reforms essential to achieving our objectives . The time to take stock has come and it signals the end of an extractive economic model which favors a tiny minority to the detriment of all of humanity and life on earth. Closer to home, we must be outraged and denounce the Prime Minister and his superminister, who no longer have any credibility in relation to the issues and challenges that concern our future. The highly energy-intensive model they are offering us is worthy of dinosaurs.
