In interview at Africa Newspaper (TV5) last week, Oumou Sangaré spoke about her 9and career album as a “way of sharing the pain of the Timbuktians”, after all the armed conflicts they have suffered and which persist today. Ambassador of wassoulou musical culture for three decades, the Malian Oumou Sangaré wrote — with the help of her old collaborator and kamele n’goni player Mamadou Sidibé — the often painful songs (poignant Demissimw) of this album on which his strong voice arises on orchestrations a bit pop-blues-rock, making Timbuktu the most easily accessible of his discography. Blues of spirit and rhythm, the laments of Sangaré sway between anger and the party which shows up despite everything in the dancing rhythms of Wassulu Don and Kêlê Magni. Guitarist and dobro player, Frenchman Pascal Danaë, from the Creole blues trio Delgres, co-produces the album, and gives it a pop-rock veneer reminiscent of the successes of Amadou and Mariam.
