TikTok Lite, the new application that promises to earn money by watching videos

What if spending hours on social networks allowed you to earn money? This is, in any case, what the TikTok Lite application promises, available for download on iOS and Android, since the end of March in France. This is a lighter version of the application of the same name used by 22 million French people in 2023. On Android phones, this new formula even allows subscribers to be paid in Amazon gift vouchers, proportionally to the time passed on the application. Enough to make users of the social network even more addicted.

Once the software is downloaded, a “rewards center” section is available in the menu bar. For their first download, the subscriber receives 300 virtual coins. You are encouraged to log in every day to earn between 200 and 900 virtual coins. The user can even activate a daily reminder to remember to open the application. It’s not just connections that are rewarded, three “liked” videos allow you to obtain 150 virtual coins. Three followed content creators also correspond to 150 pieces.

100 virtual coins for one euro cent

Viewing time is also rewarded: 150 virtual coins for one minute, 1,500 virtual coins for 10 minutes, 4,200 virtual coins for 25 minutes… It is then possible to share these rewards by offering them to content creators in the form of virtual gifts or exchange them for Amazon gift vouchers: 100 coins are worth one cent.

To carry out this exchange, the application ensures that the user is asked to prove their majority, in particular by submitting their passport, driving license or identity document. But we know that age verifications are not always very well regulated on social networks and that many minors use them. Now that each activity, each movement on the social network is monetized, the question of the addictive nature of the application arises all the more.
