As in the case of parliamentarians and civil servants, the directive only applies to smart phones provided by the workplace, therefore by the Senate in this case.

Senators and their staff have until 6 p.m. Thursday to remove the app from their devices.

“From this point on, users with Senate devices on which the application is still installed will be contacted by the Directorate of Information Services to assist them in removing the application,” the Senate said in a statement. .

The decision was made Tuesday by the Steering Committee of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration (CIBA).

In Canada, TikTok is in the sights of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and three provincial counterparts, including that of Quebec. An investigation report is expected to be filed later this year.
