(Hamilton) Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 31-28 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on Labour Day Monday.
Mitchell completed 20 of 30 passes for the Tiger-Cats (3-9), who snapped a four-game losing streak. Marc Liegghio’s 55-yard field goal at 12:23 of the fourth quarter gave the hometown favorites the lead.
The Hamilton club also won the season series against the Argonauts (6-5) while moving to within six points of the Argonauts and third place in the Eastern Conference.
Lirim Hajrullahu gave the Argonauts a 28-27 lead with a 42-yard field goal at 4:21 of the fourth quarter. He had earlier made a 25-yard field goal 14 seconds into the fourth period.
A 74-yard single, however, tied the game at 6:32.
Tiger-Cats receiver Tim White caught six passes for 180 yards and two majors. Rookie Taulia Tagovailoa scored the other Tiger-Cats touchdown, while Liegghio had three field goals.
DaVaris Daniels and Chad Kelly reached the end zone in the loss. Hajrullahu put the ball between the posts five times.
Kelly connected with his receivers 24 times in 30 attempts for 322 yards, one major and one interception.
Failing to score, the Tiger-Cats went on an 11-play, 58-yard drive that burned 6:29 in the third quarter. They started that possession at their own 1-yard line.
Kelly cut his opponents’ lead to 27-22 with a 13-yard run at 2:20 of the third quarter, ending a four-play, 69-yard drive.
