Two Dougie Hamilton goals propel Devils to victory
Dougie Hamilton scored twice on the power play Thursday, helping the New Jersey Devils win 3-1 over the Seattle Kraken.
John Marino completed in an empty net for the Devils, who were playing without Jack Hughes for the first time this season.
Injured in the upper body, Hughes will be assessed from week to week. He leads his team with 35 goals and 67 points in 2022-23.
Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 34 shots, yielding only to Adam Larsson.
Undefeated for three games, New Jersey is 10-1-1 since Jan. 7.
Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves for the Kraken, who have lost three times in four games.

Flyers edge Oilers in shootout

James van Riemsdyk and Morgan Frost scored in a shootout Thursday, helping the Philadelphia Flyers win 2-1 at the expense of the Edmonton Oilers.
Carter Hart sealed the victory by frustrating Leon Draisaitl.
Kevin Hayes was the Flyers’ goal scorer in regular time, while Hart made 34 saves.
Evander Kane scored in regular time for the Oilers, who are 8-0-2 since Jan. 11.
Connor McDavid had one assist, his 94e point of the season.
He got at least one point in 14 straight games.
Stuart Skinner stopped 35 shots for Edmonton, which plays Ottawa on Saturday and Montreal on Sunday.
Zadina scores game-winning goal on return to Red Wings

Filip Zadina had a great comeback for the Detroit Red Wings, scoring the game-winning goal 14:09 into the third period to help his team beat the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Thursday night.
Zadina had not played since November 5 due to a broken right leg.
The forward passed to Oskar Sundqvist, who immediately passed the puck to him. Zadina only had to shoot towards an abandoned net to score his first goal of the season.
Flames forward Blake Coleman scored the game’s first goal late in the second period, deflecting Noah Hanifin’s shot. Coleman thus extended his streak to three games with at least one goal, for a total of six points.
Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin tied the game a short time later on the power play. Sound 16e goal of the season is a Wings high.
Larkin has seven goals and four assists in 13 games against the Flames.
Ville Husso stopped 35 shots in the win and is yet to lose to the Flames in four starts.
For his part, Daniel Vladar made 17 saves.

Canucks back on track

Elias Pettersson scored twice in the third period on Thursday as the Vancouver Canucks snatched a 6-5 win over the New York Islanders.
Recently traded, Anthony Beauvillier celebrated his return to UBS Arena by scoring his 10e goal of the campaign.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Brock Boeser and Nils Aman also scored for the Canucks, who had lost their last two games.
JT Miller and Quinn Hughes provided two assists each.
Collin Delia made 24 saves. He was beaten by Bo Horvat, Kyle Palmieri, Brock Nelson, Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson.
Ilya Sorokin blocked 28 shots for the Islanders, who had won their last four games.
The first period resulted in four goals in 3:29.
The Islanders’ next game is Saturday afternoon at the Bell Centre.
The Canucks are going to play in Detroit at the same time.

Panthers win against Sharks

Sam Reinhart and Eric Staal each scored twice as the Florida Panthers won 4-1 Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves for Florida, which had yet to win a third straight game this season.
For the Sharks, Alexander Bararanov was the lone scorer and Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 34 shots.
Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov was out of the game with a hand injury. Fortunately for the team, Reinhart, who plays on the right wing of the first line, helped make up for Barkov’s absence.
The Panthers tied the game when Reinhart scored his first of two goals in the second period. In the last minute of the period, Eetu Luostarinen, who replaced Barkov as first center, charged towards the net and passed to Reinhart, who scored his second.
The Sharks had a great chance to tie the game when Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad was sent off for four minutes for high-sticking Timo Meier.
Staal scored two goals in an empty net to confirm the victory for his team.
