DeBrusk and Coyle lead Bruins to victory
Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were precise in the shootout as the Boston Bruins snatched a 3-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
DeBrusk and Paval Zacha scored in regular time for the Bruins, undefeated in their last three games.
The club is in first place in the East with a 9-0-1 record.
Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves.
Mitchell Marner and Auston Matthews fought back for the Toronto clan, who lost a third game in a row.
Ilya Samsonov blocked 38 shots.
William Nylander assisted on Marner’s goal. Nylander provided at least one point in each of his team’s 10 games.
Toronto will play again Saturday night at home, against Buffalo.
Varlamov makes 32 saves in Islanders’ 3-0 win in Washington
Semyon Varlamov stopped 32 shots en route to his second shutout this season on Thursday as the New York Islanders won 3-0 against the Washington Capitals.
Varlamov has 22 career shutouts.
Ryan Pulock, Simon Holmstrom and Brock Nelson scored on three of the Islanders’ first five shots.
Pulock scored 22 seconds after the initial faceoff, with the passes going to Nelson and Kyle Palmieri.
The Islanders have won three of their last four games.
They lost the other game in overtime.
Defenseman Scott Mayfield returned to the Islanders after a seven-game absence due to lower-body issues.
Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves for the Capitals, who had won three straight games.

Kings hold off late Senators surge
The Los Angeles Kings held off a late surge from the Ottawa Senators, leaving the Canadian capital with a 3-2 victory on Thursday.
The Kings built a 3-0 lead, but the Senators fought back to cut the deficit to a single goal, despite the departures of Mark Kastelic and Ridly Greig due to injuries earlier in the game.
The Kings’ defensive efforts in the third period ensured that Anze Kopitar’s second goal proved to be the game-winner.
Former Montreal Canadiens Philip Danault, like his teammate Carl Grundstrom, also scored for the Kings, who won the first two of four games scheduled for their current trip.
Cam Talbot, who spent the last campaign with the Senators, started the match in front of the Kings cage. Former Kings Joonas Korpisalo was the starting goaltender for the Senators.
Talbot had the upper hand making 24 saves, but Korpisalo was the busiest, facing 36 pucks.
With a two-goal deficit in the third period, the Senators made it 3-2 when Josh Norris deflected a Jacob Bernard-Docker shot. Dominik Kubalik scored the other goal for the local favorites.

Rangers win sixth straight game
Will Cuylle broke the deadlock midway through the third period and the New York Rangers prevailed 2-1 against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
Cuylle redirected a pass from defender Jacob Trouba.
Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers, who have won their last six games.
New York will play again Saturday evening in Minnesota.
Accomplice of Kreider’s net, Artemi Panarin scored a 16e not this season. He dominates his people in this regard.
The Russian competed in a 600e regular season game in the NHL.
Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves, being beaten only by Seth Jarvis, midway through the first period.
Frederik Andersen stopped 24 pucks for Carolina, which was trying to earn its fourth straight victory.

The Panthers win 2-0 against the Red Wings
Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves to score his 39e career shutout on Thursday, helping the Florida Panthers beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-0.
Steven Lorentz scored his first goal with the Panthers.
Lorentz, acquired from the San Jose Sharks this offseason, scored with 52 seconds left in the second period.
Niko Mikkola had an assist.
Anton Lundell scored the insurance goal into an empty net with 1:12 remaining in the third. It was his first goal of the season.
Bobrovsky is 25-6-1 against the Wings, whom he has shut out four times.
Aleksander Barkov tied Jonathan Huberdeau’s Panthers record by taking part in a 672e match with the team.
Huberdeau currently plays with the Calgary Flames.
The Red Wings were shut out for the first time all season. James Reimer blocked 25 pucks.

The Blue Jackets sign their first victory in five games
Boone Jenner and Eric Gudbranson scored 2:17 apart in the third period and the Columbus Blue Jackets ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
Kirill Marchenko scored in the first period. Johnny Gaudreau added a goal and Elvis Merzlikins blocked 27 pucks to sign his first victory since October 21.
Steven Stamkos and Conor Sheary scored for the Lightning, who are 0-3-1 on the road this season.
Matt Tomkins faced 24 pucks, including 12 early in the first period before Marchenko found the back of the net at 6:29. It was his first goal of the campaign.
Marchenko, left behind by the Blue Jackets in the team’s last two games, scored in each of his three games against the Lightning.
Dmitri Voronkov got his third assist in his fourth NHL game.

Devils win 5-3 against the Wild
Jesper Bratt had a goal and three assists as the New Jersey Devils won 5-3 against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Timo Meier, Alexander Holtz, Michael McLeod and Dougie Hamilton also scored for the Devils.
Jack Hughes was complicit in two nets. He leads the NHL with 15 assists.
Vitek Vanecek stopped 22 pucks for the Devils, who improved to 3-0 on the road this season and won five of their last six games.
Kirill Kaprizov, Marco Rossi and Jake Middleton found the back of the net for the Wild, who have lost their last four games.
Filip Gustavsson made 33 saves.
The Devils started strong, scoring early and late in the first period. Meier made it 3-0 at 2:31 in the middle period, on the power play.
The Wild narrowed the gap to just one goal, but Bratt scored the decisive goal at 15:36 in the third period.

Stars win 4-3 against Oilers
Roope Hintz scored two goals and added an assist, goaltender Scott Wedgewood made 47 saves and the Dallas Stars continued their sparkling start with a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
Joe Pavelski hit the target and was complicit in two goals. Matt Duchene also lit the red light for the Stars, who won a third straight game and a seventh in nine games this season.
Sam Gagner scored twice in his return to the Oilers and Evander Kane scored the other goal for the Oilers, who have lost five of their last six outings.
The Stars opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the first period after a missed opportunity by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Stars crossed the ice, taking advantage of a two-on-one to open the scoring, courtesy of Duchene.
The Oilers responded with three minutes left in the first when Kane scored his third of the season.
The Stars took the lead again with another over in the second, this time with Pavelski hitting the target. Hintz then added two goals to give the Stars a three-goal lead.

Hat trick for Marchessault in a Golden Knights victory
Quebecer Jonathan Marchessault scored his sixth career hat trick in a 5-2 victory for the Vegas Golden Knights against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
William Karlsson and Ivan Barbashev also scored for the Golden Knights, who improved to 10-0-1 this season. It’s number 13e team in NHL history to begin a campaign with an 11-game point streak.
Kyle Connor and Alex Iafallo sparkled the red light for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves.
Karlsson scored the first goal of the game with a one-timer following a backhand pass from Pavel Dorofeyev. Karlsson extended his point streak to eight games.
Marchessault then responded to Connor’s goal in the second period by hitting the target on a breakaway. Shortly after, Barbashev added a goal to the Knights’ lead.
Iafallo reduced the gap at the start of the third, then Marchessault scored his second goal less than four minutes later. He then sealed the match result with an empty goal goal.
It was his first hat-trick since May 14 in the playoffs.
Logan Thompson stopped 28 pucks in the victory.
