A third consecutive loss for the Panthers

Hurricanes win 5-3 over Red Wings

Nino Niederreiter scored twice to help the Carolina Hurricanes win 5-3 over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.

Niederreiter’s second goal broke the 3-3 deadlock at the start of the third period.

Tony DeAngelo, Jack Drury and Vincent Trocheck signed the Hurricanes’ other goals.

Drury found the back of the net in his very first NHL game.

Trocheck put the finishing touches in an empty net.

Frederik Andersen blocked 23 shots.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Teuvo Teravainen and Martin Necas had two assists each.

Sam Gagner, Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi fought back for the Wings, while Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 29 shots.

Result of the protocol related to COVID-19, Carolina was doing without Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, Jordan Staal, Ian Cole, Seth Jarvis and Steven Lorentz.

Vegas wins third game in a row

Nicolas Roy punctuated the Golden Knights’ four-goal push on Thursday as Vegas beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3.

Dylan Coghlan, William Carrier and William Karlsson scored before him, after a goal from Jack Hughes of the Devils.

Jonathan Marchessault scored in an empty net for the Golden Knights, who are unbeaten in their last three games.

The team have lost only once in seven games.

Author of 23 saves, Robin Lehner was foiled by Hughes, Tomas Tatar and Jimmy Vesey.

Max Pacioretty has not scored for the first time in eight games.

The Knights will replay Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

Mackenzie Blackwood made 25 saves for New Jersey, which lost its fourth straight game.
