Mitch Marner

Mitch Marner scored the decisive shootout goal after scoring his second career hat trick and the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4-3 even though they blew a two-goal lead against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday .

Wearing a full face protector after taking a puck to the jaw Tuesday against the Florida Panthers, Marner ended an eight-game goalless streak.

Auston Matthews also made a move during the shootout and collected two assists.

Joseph Woll made 37 saves for the Maple Leafs, who improved to 12-6-3.

Jared McCann scored two goals for the Kraken. Eeli Tolvanen added a goal and Philipp Grubauer stopped 25 pucks.

Without a point in his last three outings, Marner was the center of attention due to his play below expectations — along with Matthews — on the Maple Leafs’ top line.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe split the duo before a 2-1 shootout victory Tuesday against the Panthers, looking to create a spark.

This was the case on Thursday. Marner scored his first hat-trick since February 26, 2022 against the Detroit Red Wings.

Devils forward Samuel Laberge played his first NHL game. The Quebecer finished the game with four minutes of ice time.
