Sabers win 6-5 against the Lightning

Ilya Lyubushkin scored shorthanded at 1:41 in overtime on Thursday as the Buffalo Sabers had the last laugh 6-5 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Lyubushkin ended the suspense on a breakaway, earning his first goal this season.

Tage Thompson had his fourth hat trick this season.

The Sabers led 5-3 before late goals from Anthony Cirelli and Ross Colton.

The score went to 5-5 on Colton’s superiority goal, at 14:54 in the third period.

Zemgus Girgensons and Jack Quinn were the other Sabers scorers, while Eric Comrie made 36 saves.

Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman and Braydon Point also scored for Tampa Bay.

Andrei Vasilevskiy blocked 17 shots, but had to lose at home for the first time in 13 chances.

A first win in seven games for the Ducks

Jakob Silfverberg had the game-winning goal, John Gibson made 41 saves and the Anaheim Ducks won 4-2 at the expense of the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Isaac Lundestrom, Troy Terry and Derek Grant also scored for the Ducks, who had lost six straight.

TJ Oshie and Nick Jensen replied for the Capitals, who have lost their last six meetings.

It’s their worst streak since 2019, where they were defeated seven times in a row.

Gibson stopped at least 40 shots for the 10e times this season, a National League high.

Anaheim wraps up a four-game stint in the East on Saturday at Raleigh.

McDavid continues his harvest, Oilers win 7-2 over Penguins

Connor McDavid scored twice in his side’s win.

Connor McDavid scored twice to bring his total this season to a career-high 46 as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-2 on Thursday.

The NHL’s leading scorer, McDavid beat Tristan Jarry with a restricted shot in the first period, before beating Casey DeSmith on a penalty shot late in the third period.

Also with two assists, McDavid now has 109 points this season.

Leon Draisaitl scored his 35e net of the season for the Oilers, who are 10-1-5 in their last 16 games.

Warren Foegele, Kailer Yamamoto, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Devin Shore also scored for the Oilers.

Stuart Skinner stopped 22 shots.

Kristopher Letang scored the first goal of the game, as well as another late in the third period.

The Penguins were however dominated between these two goals of the defender.

Jarry blocked 23 shots before being pulled from the game after allowing six goals in two periods.

It was the goaltender’s second start since returning from an upper-body injury that forced him out for a month.

The Penguins have lost their fourth straight game and fifth in their last six outings.

A third loss in a row for the Rangers

Filip Zadina scored the game-changing goal midway through the second period on Thursday, guiding the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Andrew Copp, Michael Rasmussen and Filip Hronek also threaded the needle for Detroit, which has seven wins in eight outings.

Ville Husso made 30 saves. He only yielded against Vincent Trocheck, at 6:06 in the middle period.

Zadina tipped the scales at 8:18 with her second goal of the campaign.

Jaroslav Halak stopped 19 shots for the New Yorkers, who have lost their last three games.

This comes on the heels of a seven-game winning streak.

Devils win 4-3 over Kings

Dawson Mercer scored the winning goal in overtime.

Dawson Mercer scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the New Jersey Devils beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 on Thursday.

Tomas Tatar and Nico Hischier scored the other two goals for the Devils.

Hischier tied the game 3-3 with 38 seconds in regulation.

Vitek Vanecek made 19 saves in the win.

Anze Kopitar, Viktor Arvidsson and Sean Durzi scored the goals for the Kings. Pheonix Copley stopped 27 shots.

Mercer, who has seven goals in five games, deflected a shot from Dougie Hamilton to give the victory to his team.

Hischier tied the game by redirecting the shot from Jack Hughes, while the Devils had removed their goaltender.

Durzi made it 3-2 for the Kings late in the third period. The latter accepted Kopitar’s pass and scored his seventh goal of the season.

Mercer and Tatar combined for each other’s goal late in the second and early in the third period, erasing their team’s backlog.

Kopitar, who gave the Kings a 2-0 lead with his 20e of the campaign, has scored in his last four games.

Arvidsson scored his 17e of the season just over four minutes later, on a two against one with Kevin Fiala. Arvidsson took advantage of a rebound from Fiala’s shot.

Marc-André Fleury signs his 73e career shutout

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 30 shots en route to a 73e shutout on Thursday as the Minnesota Wild prevailed 2-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

“It was a great team effort,” Fleury said. The guys blocked a lot of shots and let me see the puck. »

Fleury is at 12e rank in history for shutouts.

The 38-year-old goaltender is three shutouts away from joining Ed Belfour and Tony Esposito in 10e place.

Brandon Duhaime and Kirill Kaprizov had the goals for the Wild, who deserved a fourth straight win.

Kaprizov leads his team with 34 goals and 68 points. He has scored five goals in six games.

The Wild will play in Toronto on Friday night.

Joonas Korpisalo made 23 saves for the Columbus side.

The Blue Jackets were shut out at home for the third time this season.

The team will host the Oilers on Saturday afternoon.
