Islanders lose 3-2 to Kings
Andreas Athanasiou scored and assisted on Quinton Byfield’s first NHL goal, Calvin Peterson made 23 saves and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday night.
Adrian Kempe also found the back of the net for the Kings, who won two of the first three games of a six-game road trip.
The Islanders didn’t score until late, with Matthew Barzal and Casey Cizikas scoring in the final three minutes of the game.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots for the Islanders.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty played his 1,000and NHL career game.

Sam Bennett helps Panthers win
Sam Bennett scored twice in the Florida Panthers’ 4-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.
Aleksander Barkov signed a 200and goal and got a 500and point.
Mason Marchment was the other scorer for the winners.
Spencer Knight stopped 24 shots for Florida, whose record at Sunrise is 22-3-0.
Zach Whitecloud scored for Vegas, while Robin Lehner made 28 saves.
Bennett scored the game-winning goal with a wrist shot in the second minute of the middle period.
He has 19 goals this season, a career high.
Max Pacioretty was playing his first game since December 28. The Knights player has recovered following wrist surgery.

Hurricanes win in shootout
Andrei Svechnikov scored the key shootout goal as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Thursday.
Nino Niederreiter had created the deadlock at 16:38 in the third period.
Ottawa had a few good chances in overtime, but couldn’t beat Frederik Andersen.
The club also missed a numerical advantage, in the last 50 of added time.
Derek Stepan also scored in regular time for Carolina, while Andersen made 37 saves.
Alex Formenton and Nick Paul scored for the Senators. Matt Murray blocked 27 shots.
The Senators were looking for a third straight win. The team will play again Saturday afternoon at home against the Anaheim Ducks.

Columbus returns to victory
Boone Jenner and Sean Kuraly each scored twice on Thursday, helping the Columbus Blue Jackets win 5-3 over the New York Rangers.
The Jackets were down 2-0 after 4:44 in the first period, but four straight goals led them to their first win in four games.
Gustav Nyquist kicked off the push, which ended with Jenner’s second goal.
Zach Werenski had three assists and Joonas Korpisalo stopped 33 shots.
Artemi Panarin provided a goal and two assists in a losing cause. He has collected at least one point in six straight games.
Barclay Goodrow and Mika Zibanejad were the other goalscorers for the visitors.
Rookie Braden Schneider had two assists and Alexandar Georgiev had 14 saves.
The Rangers will host the Wild on Friday night when Henrik Lundqvist retires.
The Blue Jackets will be at the Bell Center on Sunday.

Lightning edge Devils 3-2
Anthony Cirelli scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning prevailed 3-2 against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
Cirelli gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead a minute after Jack Hughes tied the game for the Devils.
Cirelli was frustrated on a penalty shot in the second period.
Alex Killorn and Mathieu Joseph also scored for the Lightning.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves.
The Lightning have improved to 11-1-1 in their last 13 home games.
Damon Severson scored a goal and had an assist in the loss.
Jesper Bratt had two assists and Jon Gillies made 32 saves.

JT Miller scores a hat trick against the Jets
JT Miller scored his second career hat trick as the Vancouver Canucks snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 on Thursday night.
Miller notably hit the mark on a power play. He was also an accomplice in the goal of Brock Boeser.
The American leads the Canucks with 15 goals this season.
Boeser also had two assists. Elias Pettersson added a goal and an assist.
Spencer Martin stopped 33 shots for his first NHL victory.
Andrew Copp was the lone scorer for the Jets (17-16-7), who went 0-4-2 in their last six outings.
Starting a 13th straight duel for the Jets, Connor Hellebuyck stopped 28 shots.

Ville Husso stands in front of the Flames
Brandon Saad scored twice and had an assist, Ville Husso made 28 saves for a sixth straight start and the St. Louis Blues easily defeated the Calgary Flames 5-1 on Thursday night.
Brayden Schenn had a goal and an assist in the win. Jordan Kyrou and Ryan O’Reilly also found the back of the net for the Blues.
The Blues avenged their loss in Calgary on Monday, where they lost 7-1.
Husso, who has started five of the Blues’ last six games, has not lost since returning from a lower-body injury on January 7.
Mikael Backlund was the scorer for the Flames and Jacob Markstrom had 23 saves.
