Thun Castle
Powerful and sublime, the imposing castle of Zähringen dominates the city of Thun. The impressive monument is a cultural asset of national importance.
The largest preserved ballroom from the High Middle Ages in Switzerland brings this era to life. Here, new exhibitions with selected collectibles bring the history of the castle, the city and the region to life: since 2018, the castle-museum has been a reality.
130 years after the foundation of the museum and for the 800th anniversary of the death of the master builder, Duke Berchthold V. von Zähringen, it offers for the first time a unified exhibition.
The monument itself becomes an object of the exhibition. Thus, the exceptional architectural importance of this cultural heritage becomes palpable when visiting the museum. At the end of the visit, the corner towers offer an incomparable view of the city, the lake and the Alpine panorama. Regular special exhibitions in the room on the ground floor complete the museum’s offer.
