Sergey is Ukrainian. Like his father gone to the front, he tries to help his country in his own way. And that day, it was through football and the Stade Malherbe de Caen that he collected donations. He even invited a young refugee to watch a game. Brut met him.
Sergey is 20 years old and arrived in France when he was two years old. His whole family remained in Ukraine, and Sergey’s father re-enlisted in the army to defend his country. “Like my father, from Normandy, I try to help Ukraine in my own way“, explains Sergey. He therefore organizes donations of foodstuffs, medical equipment and even hygienic products.
We found Sergey at the Malherbe stadium in Caen during the Caen-Toulouse match. In the stadium shop are boxes containing foodstuffs that will be sent directly to Ukraine. “We said: we will fight back in our own way“, explains Tatiana Dehaye, the president of the association Les Enfants de l’Ukraine. By going to the stadium, Sergey wanted to have more impact and reach as many people as possible. Sergey even took with him a Ukrainian child refugee who is a football fan. He was also able to recover a t-shirt from a footballer.”It warms my heart, I’m so happy“, rejoices Sergey.
