A prosecutor in Geneva (Switzerland) requested, Tuesday, May 16, a prison sentence of three years, including 18 months firm, against the Swiss Islamologist Tariq Ramadan, for rape in a case which dates back to 2008 and which he disputes. “He acted to satisfy his sexual desire for a woman whom he used as an object. He did not hesitate to make this nightmare last for several hours”, said First Prosecutor Adrian Holloway, addressing the judges of the Criminal Court.
The Islamologist, accused of having raped and hit a woman, has been appearing for rape in Switzerland since Monday. Fifteen years after the events, the complainant agreed to be confronted with her alleged rapist during the trial. She assures that he subjected her to brutal sexual acts accompanied by blows and insults, on the evening of October 28, 2008, in a hotel room in Geneva.
The man, 60 years old today, is threatened with a trial in France for similar facts. In France, he is suspected of rape committed between 2009 and 2016 on four women, a case which triggered his fall in 2017.
