The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday rejected Cardiff’s appeal, thus confirming the validity of the transfer of the former Nantes player.

It’s the end of a long soap opera. Three years after the death of Emiliano Sala, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Cardiff City’s appeal on Friday August 26 and ruled that the player’s transfer from Nantes to Wales was over when his fatal plane crash. The Cardiff club will therefore have to compensate FC Nantes by paying the Argentinian transfer fee.
Fifa had already made this decision in September 2019, and the body’s Players’ Status Commission had ordered Cardiff to pay the entire transfer of 17 million euros. MBut the club had appealed to challenge it. Cardiff was also ordered to pay court costs and arbitration costs.
“FC Nantes is delighted that this procedure – initiated by Cardiff City then delayed on numerous occasions by Cardiff City – which has been difficult for all those close to Emiliano, is finally over”reacted the Nantes club in a press release.
