Three Winnipeg City Police officers are facing charges after a man was injured following an arrest in April 2022 in which they intervened.

The investigation was conducted by the Independent Investigations Unit (IIU).

“As a result of this investigation, Constables Evan Fehr, Barry Knudsen and Tyler Rahn were each summoned to appear on May 15, 2023, in Winnipeg Provincial Court for assault causing bodily pain,” the UEI said. as reported by CTV News Winnipeg.

Investigators say the incident took place on April 11, 2022 around 9:30 p.m., when an off-duty police officer saw a man attempting to steal a catalytic converter.

According to the investigators’ report, which has been made public, the police officer tried to confront the man, who then began to flee. The manhunt continued in the streets of the city, until the policeman was able to arrest the suspect.

Following a transfer to a hospital, it was determined that the man suffered a fractured orbital bone. The investigation began shortly thereafter.

The UEI would not give further details, sticking to the fact that the investigation is currently presented in court.
