Three weapons seized and a 20-year-old man arrested in Laval

Laval police grabbed a 20-year-old man and three firearms last week in their effort to stem the phenomenon of urban violence on their territory.

The accused, Mac Ahern, was arrested on January 12 and will have to answer to justice on counts of possession of a weapon. He will remain detained pending his appearance.

Following violent events on Laval territory, the Laval Police Department (SPL) had obtained a search warrant targeting a home in the Sainte-Rose district.

On the spot, his agents seized three firearms, as well as about fifty ammunition. They also found narcotics and an amount of money totaling nearly $5,000.

“This operation reiterates the SPL’s commitment to fight against urban violence linked to firearms and thus reduce the crime that is rampant in Laval,” the police force said in a press release.

Since the beginning of the year, the SPL would have withdrawn six firearms from circulation and made three arrests of individuals directly or indirectly linked to events, also specified the latter.

Mac Ahern’s case will return to the Court of Quebec on January 24.
