(Trois-Rivières) The mayor of Trois-Rivières, Jean Lamarche, announced Monday that he is suspending his municipal activities for “a few weeks” because of an “unhealthy work climate” at the city council.
In a brief press release, the mayor’s team specified that this downtime is necessary for Mr. Lamarche to allow him to reposition himself “in the face of the unhealthy work climate that reigns around the table of the municipal council”.
“Unfortunate to have to temporarily interrupt his duties, this break is essential so that he can replenish his energy and reassess his ability to work in balance with his deepest values”, can we read in the press release.
Mayor Lamarche has also asked to withdraw point 6 of the public meeting scheduled for Tuesday on the notice of motion of the Industrial Park 40/55.
This project has divided the municipal council for several months due to the destruction of wetlands, according to Le Nouvellistewhich also reports that a city councilor allegedly received email threats from another elected official regarding his position on the 40/55 Industrial Park expansion project.
Jean Lamarche has been mayor of Trois-Rivières since 2019. In the municipal elections of 2021, he was re-elected by obtaining 61% of support.
