Who is Dylan Robert?
He burst onto the screen as a tortured but endearing boss in Scheherazade. Now 23 years old, actor Dylan Robert won the César for Most Promising Male in 2019 for this very remarkable first performance… and not totally unrelated to his career.
During the presentation of the film at the Cannes Film Festival, the director Jean-Bernard Marlin declared that he had sought the “coincidence between reality and scenario”. Just like his character, Dylan Robert comes from the Belle de Mai district, in the 3rd arrondissement of Marseille. And he had already had problems with the law: he was incarcerated for delinquency when an educator told him about hearing the film which made his breakthrough.
Since then, Dylan Robert has played nearly a dozen other roles, notably alongside Jean Dujardin, Maïwenn, or the Marseille rapper Soso Maness, also from the working-class neighborhoods of Marseille.
Why is he being indicted?
More precisely, he would have drives the scooter which transported the author of the shooting, to the city of Maronniers (14th), that two rival bands were fighting between Parc Corot (13th) and the Cité des Lauriers (13th).
Listening to several telephone lines, including those of relatives and his apartment in Toulon, provided evidence supporting this thesis. During the investigation, he defended himself by claiming to be in Paris, on a promotional campaign for a range of Yves Saint Laurent clothing at the time of the events. “I do not belong to any war and no war belongs to me”, he responded to investigators according to The world.
What are his other legal problems?
At the beginning of 2022, Dylan Robert was incarcerated in Draguignan prison (Var), where he is serving a 30-month prison sentence for necklace snatching committed between two filming events in March and May 2021, in the Aix region. He was then under judicial supervision since February 2021, after spending 13 months in pre-trial detention following two cases of armed robbery in 2017 and other violent thefts.
When faced with justice, he tried to justify these misdeeds by the need to pay a bail of 3,000 euros, as told by The world. “Yes, I’m stupid, I’ll tell you straight-faced”he retorted to the stunned president of the court, citing economic difficulties during the Covid crisis and his difficult youth in the 3rd arrondissement, “where snatching is basic, there is the most vice.”
But the actor hoped to get back up. “In prison, I go to school, I do sophrology, I do sports. My career will take off again“, did he project himself full of hope in July 2023, on the occasion of his acquittal in another violent theft case, according to Provence.
The actor was also due to appear before the Marseille correctional justice system on November 30 in two separate cases concerning an armed robbery and a carjacking, according to Provence. But the two trials had to be postponed until March 2024, one of the lead lawyers having serious health concerns.
