Three people, implicated in the death of a 14-month-old baby on Thursday July 11 in La Ferté-Macé (Orne), were indicted on Sunday by the Caen public prosecutor’s office for “deprivation of care resulting in death”, reports France Bleu Normandie (Calvados-Orne). They were placed in provisional detention.
The three people are the baby’s mother, her partner, at whose house the incident occurred, and the man’s mother.
On Thursday, the baby’s body was found at the home of his mother’s partner in the city center of La Ferté-Macé. The medical examiner was unable to determine the cause of death. For the moment, the prosecution has not ruled out the hypothesis of violence against the baby. An autopsy is to take place on Monday in Caen.
The child had not been fed or washed in the hours before his death. “Each of the three accused could have done something, but did nothing”indicates the Caen prosecutor.
Several residents had filed reports with the police after witnessing scenes of mistreatment and violence. The prosecutor confirmed that social services had also been alerted in the months preceding the tragedy. The prosecution also indicated that a judge had recently ordered a judicial measure of educational investigation.
According to the prosecutor, the mother suffered from drug and alcohol addiction problems. Her partner, who is not the child’s father, was under guardianship due to psychiatric problems.
