Three people, including an SNCF agent, will be tried on April 25, 2024 for “conspiracy”, “scam” And “forgery and use of forgery”suspected of being behind the theft of rails stored in the old freight station of Cahors (Lot) at the end of August, the Cahors public prosecutor’s office told franceinfo on Thursday November 9.

The affair began on August 24, with the filing of a complaint by the SNCF for the theft of 565 tonnes of rails stored in the former Cahors freight station. The day after this complaint, investigators discovered that this operation had been made possible thanks to the production of a false collection voucher from the SNCF.

Two vehicles and 18,950 euros in cash seized

“The investigations carried out under the direction of the Cahors public prosecutor’s office made it possible not only to identify the individual who produced the document, an SNCF agent, but also to intercept the goods before they were melted down and shipped to Spain”, wrote the prosecution in a press release on Thursday. Very quickly, two suspects specializing in the recovery and resale of metals were also identified and arrested on Tuesday in Cahors and Tournefeuille (Haute-Garonne).

The searches carried out allowed investigators to seize 18,950 euros in cash, as well as two vehicles with a total value of 45,000 euros. “The hearings and investigations carried out gave rise to a summons of the individuals arrested before the criminal court on April 25, 2024”concludes the prosecution.
