three people found dead after being swept away by a wave in Plogoff

The tragic accident took place Thursday, May 19 shortly after 6 p.m., according to information collected by France Bleu Breizh Izel from the maritime authorities and the prefecture. The family was walking on the dike when a tidal wave took the parents and a teenager. Immediately, witnesses alerted the emergency services and significant resources, firefighters, SNSM, gendarmerie but also sailors-fishermen were dispatched to the scene assisted by two helicopters and drones.

The parents, in their forties, were quickly found in cardio-respiratory arrest but could not be resuscitated despite the efforts of the emergency services. A third victim, a teenager, was pulled from the water at 10 p.m. The couple’s other two children are safe and have been taken care of. A psychological unit was immediately set up.

An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy. Finistère was no longer at high tide but there could still be a significant swell, specifies the prefecture. The witnesses of this accident will be heard.
