Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank, on Tuesday (February 8th), the Palestinian Health Ministry reported in a statement. The Jewish state evokes for its part an operation against a “terrorist cell” which was “neutralized”. The Israeli border police say the three victims tried to open fire on the soldiers without causing any injuries during this joint operation by the police and the army.
“This cell was responsible for a series of armed attacks in the area against the army and against Israeli civilians in recent weeks”police said in a statement. “Our forces have once again proven today that terrorists do not have impunity”reacted on Twitter the Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett.
The Palestinian Authority, for its part, denounced a “heinous crime”, “reflecting brutality and racism” of the Jewish state, accusations of racism recently taken up by the NGO Amnesty International. According to AFP sources within the Palestinian Fatah party, the three men were members of its armed wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Clashes with the Israeli army break out regularly in the West Bank, on the sidelines of demonstrations against Israeli colonization or arrests in Palestinian localities by Israeli security forces.
