Three fires are underway this Tuesday afternoon in Gironde. Firefighters are facing two major fires from the Landiras fire in Cabanac-et-Villagrains and Hostens. 320 hectares have already gone up in smoke. Another fire is also raging in Sainte-Hélène in the Médoc.
This Tuesday evening, the firefighters of the Gironde must fight against three fires. Two resumptions of fire seem worrying. According to the firefighters of the hot spots of the Landiras fire, they have reactivated in a virulent way.
The first is located to the north, in the area of Cabanac-et-Villagrains, where a power line in the axis of the fire hinders the intervention of firefighters, in particular aerial means. The second is in the south, near the town of Hostens.
320 hectares have already gone up in smoke. 300 in Hostens and 20 in Cabanac-et-Villagrains. These are green areas, which had not been ravaged by the Landiras fire which already destroyed 14,000 hectares in July.
For safety, the Mayor of Hostens has evacuated the districts of Haudoua, Frayot and Arroudeys.
The fire is virulent, spreads in the crown and is fanned by the wind. Conditions that do not facilitate the task of the 400 firefighters mobilized on site. Helicopters drop tarpaulins of water and canadairs are engaged.
A third fire in the Médoc
The firefighters must also fight against a third fire, in Saint Helena, where nearly fifteen hectares have already burned. Resources have been deployed on the ground and Canadairs are mobilized to extinguish the fire.
