Hiking on the Pic de la tête-de-chien
Parc national des Monts-Valin is less well known than Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay – some call it a well-kept secret – but it also offers beautiful views of the exceptional Saguenay region. One of the popular trails for hikers is that of the Pic de la tête-de-chien, a portion of which had been closed for twenty years (to protect the vegetation) was redeveloped in September 2021. The hike, which is 8 .5 km now leads to a belvedere perched on a 575 m high escarpment. This is not to be missed.
Good to know: not far from the park, in Saint-David-de-Falardeau, is the Imago Village accommodation site, which offers colorful yurts in nature and which intends to add largely fenestrated domes to its offer soon.

Discoveries at the microbrewery

A new microbrewery was born in the summer of 2021 at the entrance to Lac-Saint-Jean, in the small town of Hébertville, near regional road 169. It is Bercée Microbrasserie, which includes a tasting room where you can have a drink and a bite to eat, a shop where you can stock up on cans and regional products and, of course, a brewing room. Part of the building consists of the house of the great-grandparents of the co-owners, a house which was originally located in Alma!
As for hops, Bercée currently offers six craft beers. And on the food side, the menu includes sandwiches, aperitif platters and other appetizers featuring regional cheeses and products.

Campsite in the middle of Lac Saint-Jean
Popular for its bike paths and large brown sand beaches, Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon is also popular for its campsites directly on the shores of Lac Saint-Jean (especially in the Les Castors sector). Since mid-June 2022, 18 new rustic sites have been added in the Camp-de-Touage-Les-Îles sector: they allow camping in the middle of the lake, on three small islands that also have sandy beaches. These lands are accessible by kayak or shuttle. A unique way to enjoy the vast Lac Saint-Jean and its starry sky.
